Sanitary Sewer

The City of Algona operates it’s own sewer system, it includes several miles of sewer mainline and hundreds of manholes and only one lift station. The system is gravity flow from Algona all the way to Renton where the sanitary sewer is treated by King County at the Renton treatment plant.

To keep the sanitary sewer systems running smoothly here are some tips.

Helpful Tips:

  • Do not flush items such as soiled diapers, towels, paper towels or cleaning cloths.
  • Do not dispose of chemicals in your sewer.
  • Cooking grease and oils should never be poured down the drain (instead pour into a soup can let it cool and dispose in trash).
  • If have a sewer odor in your home there is possibly a problem with your piping system (you should have it checked by a plumber).
  • Do not connect your gutters and downspouts or install outdoor drains connected to the sanitary sewer system.
  • Always know where your sanitary sewer clean-outs are and never cover them with anything, you never know when you’ll need them!
